LIVED EXPERIENCE & PEER MENTORING

Support Shaped by Lived Experience

At Community Support Squad, lived experience is not simply an additional credential—it helps shape how we listen, connect and provide support to our participants.

Members of our team bring personal insight into disability, neurodivergence, mental health challenges and navigating complex life circumstances. This understanding sits alongside professional training and clear boundaries to create support that feels genuine, respectful and grounded in the real world.

“Our approach is shaped with people with disability—not simply for them. We recognise people with lived experience as leaders, mentors and experts in their own lives.”

OUR FOUNDATION

The Values Behind Our Support

Our principles shape every interaction, ensuring respectful, consistent and participant-led care.

Compassion

We approach every person and situation with empathy, dignity and without judgement.

Connection

We take time to build genuine, trusting relationships that create a foundation for meaningful support.

Community

We help people strengthen their sense of belonging and build connections within the communities that matter to them.

Collaboration

We work alongside participants, families, supporters and professionals to create coordinated support around the whole person.

Choice & Control

Your life, goals and preferences guide the support we provide. We listen, adapt and respect your right to make informed decisions.

Support that starts with listening

Our 3-Step Matching Process

Finding the right support worker or peer mentor should be straightforward, collaborative and the choice should be entirely yours.

STEP 01

Connect

Reach out in a way that works for you. We can begin with a relaxed conversation about what matters to you, what you want support with and what you would value in a worker or mentor.

STEP 02

Understand & Match

We take time to understand your story, goals and what support has (and hasn’t) worked before. We will also ask about your communication style and availability to identify a worker whose skills and personality genuinely align.

STEP 03

Meet & Decide

Meet your proposed worker before making a decision. There’s no obligation to continue if the match doesn’t feel right. Once you’re happy, we’ll build your support plan together—and adapt it as your needs change.

GOT QUESTIONS?

Frequently Asked Questions

Choosing the right support matters. Here are some of the things you might want to know before deciding if CSS is right for you.

Community Support Squad provides a range of personalised NDIS supports, including Support Coordination, Psychosocial Recovery Coaching, Complex & Forensic Disability Support, and Daily Living & Community Support.

Our support can include help with personal care and daily routines, community access, appointments, mental health and recovery, building independence, navigating your NDIS plan, connecting with services and coordinating complex support needs.

We tailor support around the individual—because the right support looks different for everyone.

Absolutely. We believe choice and control sit at the heart of quality care. We discuss your preferences, personality match, and lived experience goals, then introduce you to potential workers so you can decide who feels right for your team.

There is never any pressure or awkwardness. You have full freedom to give feedback or request a new worker at any time. We handle transitions respectfully, smoothly, and without disruption to your ongoing support.

Once you reach out, we typically connect within 24 to 48 hours for an initial conversation. Depending on your schedule and worker availability, support can often commence within a week of finalising your service agreement.

Yes. All our services are charged strictly in line with the official NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits. We have zero hidden sign-up fees, exit fees, or surprise administrative overheads.

We deliver in-person 1-on-1 support and community access across our local metropolitan and surrounding service regions, alongside flexible mentoring arrangements tailored to where you spend your time.

Absolutely. We believe the right match matters.

Where possible, we’ll arrange a free “meet and greet” for you to meet your proposed support worker before regular supports begin. It gives you both a chance to get to know each other and decide if the match feels right.

If it doesn’t, that’s okay. You can tell us, and we’ll work with you to find someone who may be a better fit.

Yes. Complex and forensic disability support is one of our areas of focus. We work with people who may have complex support needs, psychosocial disability, justice-system involvement, housing instability, behaviours of concern, or multiple services involved in their care.

Our approach is person-centred, trauma-aware and non-judgemental. We focus on building trust, consistency and practical support around the person—not defining someone by their diagnosis, history or circumstances.

Yes. Community Support Squad currently supports participants who are plan-managed or self-managed. If you’re unsure how your NDIS funding is managed or whether you can access our services, get in touch and we can help you work it out.
